Vintage Truckin’ 4 – 1950s & 1960s
Special Edition: Western Freight Haulers
Author and Editor: David A. Bontrager
Contributing Photographer:  Robert Ward
Publisher: DABble Publishing & Imaging

  • A Truck Photographer’s Diary, Vol. 119–Vintage Truckin’ 4 – 1950s & 1960s, is a CD photo album featuring photos of trucks taken in the 1950s & 1960s.  All of the photos were taken by well-known truck photographer Robert Ward.
  • The CD features black and white and color photos.
  • This CD features western freight haulers that ran team to Chicago.  The equipment running east was different than the equipment running west, but a few western operation trucks are shown so you can see the differences.
  • It should be noted that the trucks with droms shown in this CD did indeed run east.  They are short droms with shorter trailers.
  • The trucking industry is a constantly changing arena, and when trucking history is gone, it’s gone forever.  Many thanks to Robert for his efforts at photographing trucks over the years, without photos like these we would not have any history of trucking.
  • The photo album is a great collection of vintage trucks.

About The Author

  • Dave’s mother took photos of his dad’s trucks in the 1940s and 1950s and is the one responsible for Dave’s interest in truck photography.  As a boy, Dave began photographing trucks in the mid-1950s, and also collected photos from trucking companies.  Over the years Dave learned to know many people who took photos and also collected truck photos, and many of these acquaintances sent him photos.  Dave of course is quite a historian on the trucking industry and the trucks.  Dave’s passion for truck photography continues today.  He is now retired and lives with his wife Anna near Elnora, Indiana.

About The Photographer

  • Robert Ward began photographing trucks in 1952 and is well known for his truck photos.  During the 1950s and through the 1960s he shot mostly black and white photos, which was very common for that era, but he also shot some color photos.  He continues to photograph trucks today, but on a more limited basis.
